Sand play therapy can be used with children, adolescents and adults in individual, family, and group therapeutic interventions. Adding sand play therapy to your clinical repertoire provides an alternative to verbal-based interventions, and creates an opportunity for richer client-counselor interactions. This introductory/intermediate training in sand play therapy will provide participants with an understanding of the history and practice of sand play therapy. The fundamentals of sand play therapy will be demonstrated as the participants engage in an authentic learning experience. By the end of the workshop participants will be able to: 1.) Create sand play therapy techniques for use with adults and adolescents; 2.) Have experienced and be able to replicate sand play therapy techniques; 3.) Understand when and how to utilize sand play therapy techniques in treatment. There will be opportunities to purchase & trade figures.

This more advanced training by Dr. Jodi Mullen will help participants progress in their sand play therapy training to cover more in-depth topics and theories. As a result of participating in the workshop, you will 1.) learn how to use sand play therapy in alternative settings, like groups and supervision; 2.) develop a beginning knowledge of the symbols that frequently emerge in sand play therapy, and 3.) have opportunities to create sand play therapy-based interventions

There will be opportunities to purchase & trade figures.

About the presenter:

Dr. Jodi Weinstein Mullen, PhD LMHC NCC RPT-S is the Director of Integrative Counseling Services in Cicero & Oswego, New York. She is on the faculty at SUNY Oswego in the Counseling & Psychological Services Department where she is the coordinator of the Graduate Certificate Program in Play Therapy. Dr. Mullen is a credentialed play therapist and play therapy supervisor. She is the author of several manuscripts on play therapy and supervision. Her books include “Counseling Children & Adolescents through Grief and Loss” (co-authored by Dr. Jody Fiorini) (2006), “Play Therapy Basic Training: A Guide to Learning & Living & the Child-Centered Play Therapy Philosophy” (2007), and ”Supervision can be Playful: Techniques for Child and Play Therapist Supervisors” (co-edited with Athena Drewes) (2008). Dr. Mullen is on the editorial board for the International Journal of Play Therapy. She is also the clinical editor of Play Therapy Magazine.

Who should attend?:

Mental health and educational professionals (and graduate students in those disciplines) who work with children can significantly benefit from this training.

Continuing Education Certificate:

We offer continuing education certificates through the Association for Play Therapy (APT) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) for a price of $15.00/each or $25.00/both APT & NBCC.

Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC is approved by The Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to play therapy. Our provider number is 06-168. Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC maintains responsibility for the program. 6 CEs (one day) or 12 CEs (two day) can be earned by attending this program. A continuing education certificate can be obtained for an additional $15.00 fee.

Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6384. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations up to one-full week before each workshop will be assessed a $20.00 cancellation/processing fee. No refunds if cancellation occurs during the week of the workshop. The same rules apply if the registrant does not show for workshop.
